Penyesuaian Masalah Agensi (Agency Problem) dalam Kontrak Pembiayaan Mudharabah
Penyesuaian Masalah Agensi (Agency Problem) dalam Kontrak Pembiayaan Mudharabah
Muhammad, Muhammad

Therefore, it represent one of he backbones of he economy of a country. One of the sectors that play an important part in the export activity of Indonesia is agriculture. Coffee is one of the important commodities of the sector. It is necessary to conduct a study of the Indonesian coffee export in order to improve it. The study of the internal factors infl uencing the Indonesian coffee export performance is required by examining the demand function of the Indonesian coffee export by the importing countries. Additionally, it is also necessary to study the competition between Indonesia and its competitor countries in international market and Brazil is determined as the competitor because the country is constantly on the fi rs rank as the coffee suppliers in the international market. It is expected that such a comparison enables Indonesia to gain more knowledge in developing and improving its coffee export.

Ruchba, Sarastri mumpuni
Permana, Billy Didik
In the manufacturing industry, textile and textile products (TPT) industry become one of the biggest contributors to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Indonesia, while the manufacturing industry itself is the largest contributor to GDP. However, the Indonesian textile industry in recent years has many problems, among others, the raw material (cotton) were 99.5% imported, textile machinery production average age was 20 years and over, and port charges are expensive. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze the efficiency of the textile industry in Indonesia. The textile industry is divided into three classifications according to the criteria of ISIC, i.e. the textile industry (ISIC 17), the apparel industry (ISIC 18), leather and leather goods industry (ISIC 19). The method of analysis used is the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) by using Variable Return to Scale (VRS) dan Constant Return to Scale (CRS). The analysis shows that in general the level of efficiency of textile and textile products in Indonesia is still low. In 2009 the level of efficiency of the textile industry in Indonesia is the highest compared to 2007 and 2008.Keywords: Level of Efficiency, Industrial Textile, Garment, Leather and Leather Goods Industry, Data Envelopment analysis (DEA), Variable Return to Scale (VRS)

Researches on the influence of financial perfomance on corporate value have been widely conducted, however results inconsistency occured. Researches predicted that there are other influencing factors. This conditions drives researches to use CSR and GCG as moderating variables. This research aims to test the influence of financial performance on corporate value by considering the two moderating variables. This research uses 25 manufacturing firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2009 - 2011 as samples with 75 observation. Hypothesis is tested using moderated regression analysis to find out the interactive influence of the moderating variables. The corporate value measured using Tobin’s Q, while disclosure of CSR and GCG are measured with the allocation cost of soical responsibility and institutional ownerships.Result indicate that (1) EPS has a possitif effect on corporate value, (2) the allocation cost of social responsibility is able to moderate relation of EPS and corporate value, (3) but institutional ownerships are unable to moderate the relation of EPS and corporate value. This is possible because the institutional investor not only use EPS to make an investment decisions. Keywords: financial performance, corporate value, corporate social responsibility

Putusan Mahkamah Konstitusi Tentang Status Anak Luar Nikah Dan Kekuatan Hukumnya
Muttaqien, Dadan
Zuhri, Muhammad Arif
The problem of lineage, in relation to Islam, is getting important to be discussed and to be given sufficient attention by Muslims today. This situation is driven by the verdict of the Indonesian Constitutional Court No. 46/PUU-VIII/2010 on the case of children which were born outside marital relation. The said verdict has been considered as controversial and led to prolonged polemics in the society, and particularly among Muslims. This due to the content of the verdict that is not within the boundary of the established norm in Islamic law. One of the negative effects that seems to happen is that adultery will be justified by such verdict, since the children born as result of this adultery is considered as legal from the civil law perspective. This article tries to analyse the topic from the perspective of Islamic law. The article concludes that such verdict has not carry any legal power if it put in the context of Islamic law.Key words: mahkamah konstitusi, status anak, luar nikah

Urgensi Ranah Afektif Dalam Evaluasi Pendidikan Agama Islam Di Perguruan Tinggi
Darmadji, Ahmad

contribution of human rights concept
renewal of criminal procedure code
The idea of renewal of the Criminal Procedure Code can not be separated from the conceptualcontribution of Human Rights (HAM). This contribution has been explicitly included in thepreamble of the draft of Criminal Procedure Code. Although the current Criminal ProcedureCode already provides protection to the rights of the suspect or the accused, but theimplementation is still not optimal. Therefore, in the draft of Criminal Procedure Code there isa new institution called the Judicial Commissioner (Rechter-Commissaris) to replace thefunction of Pretrial institutions. The Judicial Commissioner has far wider powers of Pretrialinstitution, so that the protection of the rights of suspects or defendants in any stage of thejudicial process will be more secure fulfillment. The development of human rights concept alsocontributed to the idea to regulate the rights of victims in the renewal of the Criminal ProcedureCode. Protection of the rights of victims in the current Criminal Procedure Code is limited tothe rights to the incorporation of lawsuits for damages to the criminal case. Because it has notadequately regulated in the current Criminal Procedure Code, the draft of Criminal ProcedureCode regulates the rights of victims, both associated with involvement in all stages of judicialproceedings and the right to sue for damages.

Critical Perspective on ASEAN Security Community under ASEAN Political and Security Community
jati, Irawan
APSC
regional security
constructivism
Despite economic integration challenges, ASEAN faces greater security challenges. It isobvious to assert that a stable economic development requires a secure regional atmosphere. The traditional and nontraditional threats encounter ASEAN home land security. The mostprobable threats portraying ASEAN are hostile foreign entities infiltration, intra and inter statesdisputes, radical religious movements, human trafficking, drugs and narcotics smuggling, andeven cybercrimes. To this point, ASEAN has taken constructive measures such as establishingconsultative forums, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), ASEAN Defense Minister’s Meeting(ADMM) and ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crimes (AMMTC). In 2009, ASEANadopted the ASEAN Political and Security Community. One of its stated purposes is to sharesecurity responsibility of each ASEAN member through constructivist approach. However,APSC has far of being success to achieve its ideal mission. Therefore, this piece would criticallyexamined the fundamental questions: how does ASEAN security policy through APSC meet itsinterest to secure ASEAN region? To search for the answer it would apply constructivismapproach. Constructivism ponders the significance role of regional security institution such asAPSC in security structure. It suggests that regional security community should be build basedon shared values among states in a region. Constructivist’s regional security model will be usedas the explanatory model for APSC case. While the Regional Security Complex (RSC) theorywould be employed to analyze the security dynamic is ASEAN. Itargues that the APSC is able tocreate pivotal security forums but lack of confidence in tactical level. It also suggest thatAPSC’s policies are laid in triangualar basis; rely on dialogue, establishing forums andinnitiatives, and rely on non-legal binding principle.

This paper discusses how empowerment can be triggered by mystical experiences, byfocusing on mystical experience of the first revelation of Islam to Muhammad PBUH. Only fewliterature on empowerment in mainstream psychology, specifically discuss how empowermentcan be achieved through personal mystical or spiritual experiences. Transpersonal studies giveexplanations of human mystical experiences and extra sensory perceptions. Chronologicalanalysis of the first revelation showed how the mystical experience empowered Muhammad.First, mystical experience is empowerment. Second, mystical experiences can become aneffective and an efficient trigger for empowerment in daily life if understood correctly; andaffirmed with social support. Third, spiritual awakening can unfold into intrapersonal, interpersonal and behavioral empowerment if the person contemplates about the experience, and implement it to benefit others.

Makna Kebebasan Berpikir Dalam Diskursus Pemikiran Islam Kontemporer
Abror, Robby Habiba
Kebebasan berpikir
Islam kontemporer

Pendidikan Multikultural Untuk Anak-Anak
Nashori, H. Fuad
Pendidikan multikultural

Pancasila
Pancasila is the legal basis and ideology of Indonesia, which regulates all existing laws, including the freedom of belief. The Indonesian state was founded by national warriors of ethnic, language, cultural, customary, and religious diversity, thereby necessitating the people to exhibit mutual respect and appreciation. Therefore, this research aims to discover the meanings, values, and appropriate practices of the first Pancasila precepts in order to guarantee the right to freedom of belief, religion, and worship. The legal or normative juridical research method was employed by observing previous events and cases and analyzing them with a statutory approach. Subsequently, the results showed that the right to freedom of religion is regulated in the first precepts of Pancasila, where every citizen has the right to choose, embrace, and practice worship according to their beliefs. Hence, every society should cultivate a sense of unity in diversity by respecting and appreciating other religions, as the existence of all beliefs is guaranteed by law and the state.

Merapi Mount
One of the most significant eruptions of Merapi that occurred was the eruption of Merapi in October November 2010 (Pallister, et al. 2013). At that time, the impact of the eruption of Merapi was tremendous. The flow of hot clouds swept the area on the slopes of Merapi. The cleaning of the hot clouds also caused casualties, either death or injury. The eruption of Merapi in 2010, which is indicated as a 100-year eruption period, caused extensive and massive damage and loss of community livelihood assets. Damage and loss assessment is divided into 5 (five) sectors: settlement, infrastructure, social, economy and cross-sector. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. this study uses information on websites, in newspapers, and government reports. These data are used to support the statements given by the interviewees. All documents processed through the NVivo application. The finding of this article is Local governments are considered slow in responding and distributing information. Apart from that, the problem of limited resources has resulted in the obstruction of resource mobilization. Budget constraints, disruption of regional government functions, and the insufficient number of government human resources have resulted in slow mobilization. However, the local government succeeded in optimizing NGO's / NPO's and also volunteers in emergency response efforts. Finally, the government's slow performance was covered by NPO's/NGO's and volunteers. NPOs/NGOs and volunteers have a very significant role in the emergency response to the eruption of Mount Merapi.

Ego Functioning
In the present day there is a rapid growing interest in the arena of Psycho-spirituality and Mental Health. We need to bear in mind that the spiritual is co-extensive with the religious conception. We identify what we call the spiritual life with a concern to acquire holiness and a sense of presence of God through prayer, meditation and yoga practices. Believe in God transform individual’s identity and enhance ego functioning and status of wellbeing. The cosmic image of ‘The Tree of Life may have been intended to help man in diversity, which in the life of the mind is called the discovery of meaning’. (Needleman, J,1973). Victor Frankl as quoted by Mc Clone, K (2003) stated that substance abuse might be a response to a loss of direction within the individual. Loss of freedom is perceived as the addictive substance claims possession’. Keeping these in mind the author tries to examine the relationship between the mental status and mental functioning of the addicts who have believed in God and those who don’t believe. After welcoming the clients’ mental status examination was conducted. Appearances and behavior were noted. Some questions were asked and responses were recorded. Similarly, ego functions assessment was consisted of both observations and semi-structured interviews. Differences are found to be significant at both .05 and .01 level in case of mental status examination, in case of ego functioning it was significant only at .05 level. Results are indicative of recovering addicts who believe in God would see the colorful aspect of life than who don’t believe in God. They adopt a flexible approach for desired success in lives.

Although pop music is endorsed as one of the most leisure activities to express feelings and emotions in people’s daily life, song lyrics are usually neglected by linguists and excluded in any of English corpora (e.g., BNC and ANC) that are currently adopted. The current study focuses on an analysis of lyrics based on a Billboard music chart corpus mainly containing American pop lyrics, via both qualitative and quantitative methods, and aims to investigate to what extent the lexico-grammatical features of the words and expressions used in lyrics enable those songs widely accepted by audience. Results reveal that conversational contexts in the lyrics mark a story-telling feature, and help audience easily realize artists’ attitudes and the implications to some events and scenarios.

Patriarchal System in Arabic Grammar
Huda, Ribut Nur
The aim of this research is to find out the extent of the relationship between Arabic grammar and the patriarchal system in the Arab and Islamic society, which is represented in the well-known rule; Masculinity is more honorable than femininity. And the analysis of this relationship is his process under the approach of the philosophy of language, where he sees language as a living being with a linguistic context and a socio-cultural context. The researcher used the analytical and historical description method, taking advantage of the Sapper-Worf hypothesis (each language has a special grammatical structure), and from the theory of the companion Omar Ibn Al-Khattab (that the Arabic language is part of religion). After the depth of the analysis, the research concluded that the pattern of thought for grammatical predominance is like the constituent mind, with evidence that the nature of language is lightness in pronunciation or sound. As for the pattern of thought of the patriarchal system, it is like the made-up mind with evidence that the concepts of the text from the Qur’an and the Sunnah are affected by natural grammatical or abstract linguistic thinking. This research confirmed that the role of grammatical predominance in the patriarchal system is reflected in the level of Arabic-Islamic language and culture, and also that reflection appears in the level of belief and Sharia prominently. It is recommended that the subsequent researchers examine another topic of philosophical value in the same linguistic and cultural context, in order to understand the extent of external consistency in the relationship between the two contexts.

The Effect of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Sharia Monetary Transmission in Indonesia
Esya, Lavlimatria
Muayyad, Deden Misbahudin
This research analyzed the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on sharia monetary transmission in Indonesia through channel financing on money supply (M2). It was conducted to determine the stationary, cointegration, and optimal lag using Vector Error Regression Model (VECM), Granger Causality Test, Impulse Response Function (IRF), and Forecast Error Variance Decomposition (FEVD). Secondary data were collected from the monthly variables M2, SBIS, PUAS, Islamic Banking Financing, and the COVID-19 pandemic (Dummy Variable) from January 2010 to December 2020. Furthermore, VECM model showed that in the long term, sharia monetary instrument variables, such as SBIS and PUAS, are significant and positive in affecting M2, while Financing (FIN) and the COVID-19 pandemic are insignificant. This also shows that in the short term, only PUAS is significant.

A Fragmented Approach to Indonesia's Decentralized Urban Slum Reduction Policy: Central Java's Case

Urban
The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing ('PUPR'), launched a significant campaign in 2015-2019 to eradicate slums from Indonesian cities, termed "Kota Tanpa Kumuh" ('Kotaku') or City Without Slums. While this endeavor has succeeded in physically reducing the number of slums in Indonesia, the objective of totally eliminating slums within that time frame is unattainable. Many Indonesian municipalities continue to have slum communities with a variety of socioeconomic effects. The article argues, through the use of a case study in Central Java Province, that the government's failure to achieve its objective of zero slums in Indonesian cities is due to the Kotaku program's approach being incompatible with that of other ministries. Due to the fact that the problem of slum settlements encompasses a range of societal concerns such as poverty, low income, culture, and even criminality, merely altering the housing in which people live from uninhabitable to respectable is insufficient. Meanwhile, the root causes of slums continue to be ignored. As a result, this article proposes that slum eradication be integrated and sustainable through the continual involvement of numerous essential parties, including NGOs and universities.

Governance
This study therefore examined the link between the ethno-religious voting pattern in the 2015 presidential elections and governance in the post-election era in Nigeria. We anchored our analysis on the Rational Choice Theory and relied on documentary method where data were systematically gleaned from journal articles, newspapers, official documents and other online materials while utilizing content analysis as our analytical compass. Based on this, we hypothesized as follow: the ethno-religious voting pattern in the 2015 presidential election has affected political development of Nigeria under the Buhari administration; the regionalization of political appointments by Buhari administration has increased ethno-regional agitations in Nigeria. On this note, the study found that ethno-religious voting pattern played vital role in determining the pace of governance and how resources should be distributed among the competing ethnic nationalities in the post-election era. It is however, recommended that the electorates should embrace party ideology and competence of candidate as the guiding factor for voting in the future elections to be held in Nigeria.

The Escalation of Disregard on Normative Economy in the Era of Pandemic

Shah, Hassan Shakeel
Covid-19 as a global pandemic spreading around the sphere is not only inducing issues on health but also in economic crisis, particularly on business. The purpose of this research is to reveal fraud scandals and presents the importance of implementing normative economy by following business ethics, seeing it from Islamic economic viewpoint which has been done by Prophet Muhammad and how to prevent future fraud scandal which one of it is from religion. This research used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The result of this research reveals that it is important to implement normative economy as it possesses an influence on economic development and stability to society as well as exhibits that fraud cases can be prevented earlier by building the awareness of normative economics through education from the micro to macro scale. The micro-scale is from the family circumstance and from the religion. Islam as a religion that gives guidance to overall human activities, emphasizes a lot about following norms. For instance, Prophet Muhammad taught a lot how to run the business according to the right norms and following the value of ethics. On macro-scale business ethics also can be taught at school. We concluded that the awareness of normative economics can be taught since the child phase by parents, by religion, and at education institutions to prevent future fraud scandals, particularly in the age of economic crisis.

The demise of ISIS in 2017 brought about dilemmatic situations for some governments in dealing with the issues of foreign terrorist fighters (FTFs), especially women and children currently living at Northern Syrian camps. Women and children experience poverty, lacking access to education, minimal access to healthcare, violence against women, violation of women’s human rights, media stereotyping of women and girls’ vulnerabilities, which have been identified as parts of the 12 critical areas of concern addressed within the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA), an international framework to protect the rights of women in armed conflicts. Employing Feminist Security Studies as the framework for analysis, this paper analyses how the areas of concern of BPfA experienced by women and girls in the camps have been responded by the government’s repatriation policies. This paper is a qualitative study by employing semi-structured interviews for the primary data collection complemented with relevant policy documents and secondary data from scholarly articles and media reporting. This paper discusses some areas of concern addressed in BPfA experienced by women in ex-ISIS camps and investigate countries responses to these concerns by looking at the Indonesian, Kosovar and German governments’ experience. The results of this study show that policies taken by most governments in dealing with repatriation issues have not considered the Beijing Platform for Actions’ strategic objectives resulting in further deprivation and human rights violation dealt by women and girls in the camps.

Reflecting on Past University Students' Work-Integrated Learning Experiences to Maximize the Indonesian Kampus Merdeka Program
Maulana, Mochammad Ircham
Kampus Merdeka

The recently-enacted Indonesian educational policy entitled Kampus Merdeka (Independent Campus) program has received much appreciation from higher education stakeholders. This policy legitimately allows higher education students to carry out two semesters of their study periods in real workplaces and thus, categorized as work-integrated learning (WIL). However, even though this policy has increased the compatibility of university learning and workplace situations to produce work-ready graduates, it is argued that the extension of time period for doing WIL is not enough. Instead, the Indonesian higher education stakeholders need to put greater attention to the effective executions of some aspects in WIL. This research employed qualitative instrumental case study design to find out how past university students describe and evaluate their past experiences participating in teaching placement program (one of higher education programs categorized as WIL) before the Kampus Merdeka policy is issued. It focuses on four pivotal aspects in WIL including authentic learning in universities, partnership between universities and workplaces, supervision activities, and assessment methods. It was found that the application of WIL in Indonesian higher education in the four aspects has not been effectively administered. This finding can be utilized as a reflection for higher education stakeholders to maximally implement and achieve the goal of the Kampus Merdeka program.

Maqasidi Analysis in the Fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council on the Replacement of Friday Prayers with Dzuhur During the Pandemic
Aziz, Muhammad Abdul
Maqasid al-Shariah
MUI
Pandemi Covid-19
The Covid-19 Pandemic limitations affected religion and soul in the community. This included prayer decisions such as, a Muslim observing the Friday prayer in a red zone during the pandemic chose religion, while one who conducts Dzuhur chose the soul. Therefore, this study used the analytical-descriptive method to explain the maqasid al-shari'ah perspective in the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) fatwas on the permissibility of replacing Friday prayers with Dzuhur during the pandemic. The results showed that this replacement contradicted the maqasid-masalih concept which views them as inseparable entities. It was against the comprehensiveness (shumuliyyah) principle as the main characteristic of maqasid al-shariah. This is because they lacked elasticity (murunah) which is religion main goal (al-daruriyyat al-khams). The issued MUI fatwas followed the maqasid al-shariah as comprehensive, dynamic, and elastic.

Eating is no longer just to meet the needs, but also become an activity of socializing. With the increasing number of places to eat in Indonesia, encourage people to find a recommendation for a place to eat before deciding to try the food at the eating place. But, when it came to the internet and smartphone, people can easily get digital recommendation information, in the form of reviews provided by those who like to share their dining experiences (foodies). This digital recommendation is then called Electronic Word of Mouth. However, the review given digitally or online has its drawbacks, less objective, ending with a disappointing experience. This research objective is to discuss the effect of using Zomato on users' intentions to purchase or try food or restaurants. Descriptive quantitative approach and complete technique of survey data using questionnaire would be executed. Data analysis in this research is descriptive statistic and regression. Results obtained are information quality, information credibility, need of information, and attitude toward information have positive influence on information adoption. Moreover, information adoption also has positive influence on customer purchase intention. The conclusion from this study shows the variables that are interconnected and affect each other.

Today fiscal and monetary policy instruments are inextricably linked in macroeconomic management as the macroeconomic variables are interwoven. The broad objective is to analyze the impact of fiscal and monetary policy instruments on the trade balance in Nigeria. This study uses the cointegration method and ordinary least square estimation to examine the impact of fiscal and monetary policy on Nigeria's trade balance from 1981 to 2018. The co-integration test confirms the existence of a long-run relationship between monetary policy as measured by broad money supply and fiscal policy as measured by government spending, taxation, and trade balance. The empirical findings revealed that the selected monetary and fiscal policy variables did not improve Nigeria's trade balance during the study period. As a result, the study recommended that the government encourage trade policies that increase exports to attract foreign exchange inflows and foreign investments.

Advancing an African Theory of Rights and Its Potential for Quality Citizenship
Ugwuanyi, Lawrence Ogbo
Africa
Quality Citizenship
Theory of Rights
Given the numerous instances of crisis of citizenship and state belonging which disproportionately obtain in African states in comparison with other continents of the world it becomes urgent to provide positions that address the problem. This works sets out to do this by engaging the problem of rights in Africa and looking at how it affects quality citizenship. This is because the primary goal of the state is to protect rights and properties. The work will do this by engaging the nature of rights administered in the African states. It will provide a theoretical account of how a wrong idea of rights constitutes part of the problem and why the quality of rights administered in African states should be held to be the source of the problem. It will then proceed to address the problem by formulating a theory of rights anchored on an African worldview which harbours the potential to address the problem. The theory will defend the view that rights can only be found cogent and worthy to compel loyalty to its demands if it is rooted in the values and ideals of people and that an idea of rights that is endogenous to African people will be more cogent, valuable and reliable to citizenship ethics in Africa and compel loyalty to the African state. The work applies the methods of expository analysis and intuitive deduction to arrive at its positons and postulations.

Employment Generation Challenges and Strategies for Pakistan: A Diagnostic Analysis
Begum, Azeema

Pakistan
The employment challenges are getting more complex and worse because youth under the age of 30 constitute 64 percent of the total population. The gradual increase in labor force participation is adding more pressure to the labor market to generate employment opportunities. Hence, the growth in employment generation is essential to match the unprecedented number of young people entering working age in Pakistan. Moreover, the structural transition process involving labor movement from low-to-high productive activities has been much slower in Pakistan than in other Asian countries like China. This study identifies all major concerns regarding employment challenges in Pakistan and identifies various strategies and policies while adopting a diagnostic approach to employment policy. The reason for adopting the diagnostic approach/framework is to develop an understanding of the factors which are responsible for the slow growth of employment in formal sectors and significant constraints for generating more employment. It attempts to assess various elements that may find a place in developing strategies and policies. While designing effective policies for employment, policymakers must consider all aspects like population, demographics, types of unemployment, economic condition, social structure, and development stage of a country. Meanwhile, the role of entrepreneurial activities and the private sector, technological changes, development of labor-intensive industries and SMEs, improving skills and knowledge, youth employment programs, active labor market policies (ALMPs), and macroeconomic policies are core elements that should be considered to design effectual policies for employment generation.

political participation
Owing to gender imbalances and the patriarchal system, females in Pakistan are considered minorities in the political process. The quota system has increased female representation in the parliament. Nonetheless, it is imperative to implement effective strategies and policies to empower women and to improve their engagement in Pakistani politics. The main objective of this study was to explore the major challenges and prospects of female participation in politics in Pakistan. Additionally, this study investigates the obstacles and opportunities for female participation in leadership. A qualitative research method was adopted in this study, relying on a desk-study approach and utilizing various secondary sources such as articles, research papers, government reports, and official websites. The main findings of the study indicate that economic dependency, lack of education and literacy, gender segregation, male domination, traditional beliefs, financial issues, limited awareness of political rights, political parties, social and cultural norms, and religious interpretation are the major challenges faced by women in Pakistan when it comes to participating in the democratic process and governance system. Furthermore, the underrepresentation of women in politics reflects complex and mutually reinforcing social dynamics, highlighting the need for concerted and collaborative actions and measures to address these challenges. In conclusion, women's participation will lead to improved decision-making concerning gender-based laws and regulations in various sectors, including education, health, the workplace, and society.

Nigeria
Nigeria is a developing nation with a population of over 200 million. Of this aggregate, approximately 106 million are aged 18 years and above. Of this adult population, 70 million live in rural areas, and many do not have adequate access to relevant financial products and services. The proportion of individuals and firms that use or have access to financial services can be referred to as financially inclusive. This study analyzes the impact of financial inclusion and domestic investment on Nigeria’s financial development. Multiple regression analysis was employed in this study which spanned over the period, 1982-2021. The empirical results reveal that financial inclusion and domestic investment have positive impacts on financial development; however, domestic investment has a more significant impact to a larger extent. The study recommended that policies should be directed towards creating a more inclusive financial system to improve the current level of financial inclusion to achieve better financial development in Nigeria. This study concludes that governments should formulate policies that boost financial inclusion and investment to deepen the level of financial development in the economy.

Endangered Food Systems: Agriculture, Nutrition and Cultural Heritage in Bali, Indonesia

The long-established, traditional food systems maintained by indigenous and local communities in developing countries have witnessed rapid changes in production, trade, and consumption patterns in recent decades. These changes tend to be detrimental to ecological and human health. The central highlands and northeastern coast of the island of Bali, Indonesia, are illustrative examples of such a regional food system, with centuries of documented history and subject to a longitudinal ethnographic study by the author. This paper describes the recent decline in local biodiversity, ecological sustainability, social resilience, nutrition, and food security in this food system in the wake of agricultural ‘modernization.’ Greater attention to the culturally modulated dimensions of food systems, it is argued, will contribute to creating a rural development model for (re-)creating moral economies that support ecologically and socially responsible food systems.

Does Power Sector Reform Facilitate Informal Economy Development? A Study of Nigeria’s Experience in the Southeast Geopolitical Zone

southeastern Nigeria
This study examines the efficacy of the power sector reform in enhancing the development of the informal economy in the southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It interrogates explicitly the effect of the unbundling of the electricity sector on job creation and livelihoods of the operators of the informal economy. Utilizing the mixed methods data approach and the Marxist theory of the postcolonial state, this study argues that the power sector reform is part of the grand strategy aimed at expanding capitalist penetration and protecting the economic interests of the advanced capitalist states. This self-serving interest of the capitalist institutions, which the power sector reform intends to protect explains the crisis in the power sector manifesting in poor electricity supply and increased tariffs for electricity consumers. Indeed, these untoward outcomes have negatively affected the development of the informal economy in southeast Nigeria. It, however, recommends a reevaluation of the market-based power sector reform in Nigeria.

Data Science Approach to Compare the Lyrics of Popular Music Artists
Rosebaugh, Caleb
Shamir, Lior
popular music lyrics
basic supervised machine learning
automatic quantitative text analytics
Popular music lyrics exhibit clear differences between songwriters. This study describes a quantitative approach to the analysis of popular music lyrics. The method uses explainable measurements of the lyrics and therefore allows the use of quantitative measurements for consequent qualitative analyses. This study applies the automatic quantitative text analytics to 18,577 songs from 89 popular music artists. The analysis quantifies different elements of the lyrics that might be impractical to measure manually. The analysis includes basic supervised machine learning, and the explainable nature of the measurements also allows to identify specific differences between the artists. For instance, the sentiments expressed in the lyrics, the diversity in the selection of words, the frequency of gender-related words, and the distribution of the sounds of the words show differences between popular music artists. The analysis also shows a correlation between the easiness of readability and the positivity of the sentiments expressed in the lyrics. The analysis can be used as a new approach to studying popular music lyrics. The software developed for the study is publicly available and can be used for future studies of popular music lyrics.

Branding Phenomenon of Local Coffee in Shifting the Existence of Foreign Coffee Brands in Jakarta, Indonesia
Mone, Johana Brigitha
Sari, Eka Wulan
Aras, Muhamad
Jakarta, the capital city, is home to local coffee brands in Indonesia. As foreign coffee brands emerge in many locations, the branding strategy for local brands requires improvement. This research aims to analyze the branding strategy of local coffee brands regarding their strategy in overcoming the existence of foreign brands in Jakarta. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research data used open coding, axial coding, and selective coding, and also a reduction process, display, and data verification. The results of the research indicate that a branding strategy is used by a local coffee brand to complement and maintain the existence against foreign coffee brands by creating an impressive value that creates ‘word of mouth’ around the community, using digital media to reach wider consumers, and creating a good brand image to attract consumers.

Re-Imagining Wasatiyyah as a Socio-Theological Mediation of Youth Anger in Accra, Ghana
Prempeh, Charles
Accra
Ghana
religiopolitical tension

youth anger
The paper recognizes that the current coronavirus has caused an anger spike that has brought in its wake global street demonstrations and protests against the ruling elite. In the case of Ghana, this has found expression in some of the young men and women of the country deploying their anger that brings them into conflict with the police – often leading to either death or destruction of property. Much as the issue of youth anger is transnational, in this article, the researcher focuses on two Muslim inner-cities in Accra, Nima, and Maamobi, to reflect on how wasatiyyah could be appropriated to mediate emerging religiopolitical tension in Ghana and the West African sub-region. It is instead for the sake of convenience of the researcher’s familiarity since, as a resident of a Muslim inner-city in Accra, the researcher seeks to destabilize the simplistic assertion that Islam is a violent religion, while Muslim youth in the urban slum is concomitantly incorrigibly aggressive. Thus, deploying autoethnography and ethnographic techniques of in-depth interviews, the article explores the intersections of Ghana's socio-political history and global and contemporary issues, including Covid-19 have spiked anger that needs critical reflection. The paper concludes that the anger in the Muslim communities in Accra is not isolated from the social history of Ghana and the global context. To keep the security of the country intact and offers the youth hope, wasatiyyah will help in explaining existential inequalities as well as reorienting people to deploy moral outrage productively.

Qualitative Analysis of Public Perception of Work Ethics in Nigeria’s Public Sector
Afolayan, Michael Ayorinde
Aderibigbe, Adefisayo Ebenezer
Okanlawon, Tobiloba
The Nigerian public service is crucial to the country’s economic development. This is because a vibrant public service sector is able to harness effectively overhead taxes and also account for public expenditure at all levels. In this study, we qualitatively analyse the response of 15 individuals from the public who have visited a typical public office at least 3 times within the last one year. An interview form containing 7 items was administered, and the results was analyzed from themes that give true picture of the perception of respondents. It was observed that workers in public service are not professional enough, taking their jobs with levity. The level of unprofessionalism in the public workforce calls for urgent attention as the study finds. Public service workers make up the larger part of the workforce of the nation, and as such they represent the face of the nation to the committee of nations. Government at all levels, that is the federal, the state, and the local council level as well as the various government agencies, departments, and ministries are called upon to cooperate and synergize in order to foster rapid transformation in public service. As a result, this study recommends publics service reforms.

This article analyses the current human rights situation of hijras (eunuchs) in India against the background of Criminal Tribes Act (CTA) in 1871. This article argues that British colonial construct/imposition of masculinity on Indian hijras by classifying them as ‘criminal tribes’ have adversely impacted their lives not only in British India, but also in Contemporary India. To support main argument, article also contextualizes gender theories in the light of hijra’s bodies.

Drastic changes in the wake of COVID-19 have been witnessed in many sectors. The education sector has also been affected due to lockdowns. Exclusive online teaching methodologies were used due to the closing of schools. Platforms such as Zoom, Eventbrite, Microsoft Teams and many others were used for language teaching. Language teachers were trained regarding the use of digital tools, and this led to a radical shift to online language teaching. However, we are now moving back from enforced online teaching during the initial era of Covid-19 to teacher fronted classrooms. In this research, the focus will be what language teachers have learnt from that time and are using now for more effective teaching of reading skills. Data collected through interviews with 15 teachers and 10 students who have recently shifted to a hybrid way of language teaching and learning were qualitatively analyzed to demonstrate the benefits of hybrid language teaching and learning. Findings show that this methodology is becoming popular among teachers and students, because it enhances both teaching and learning and is effective in achieving teaching and learning goals. In summary, the wise and selective use of digital tools and face to face teaching for the teaching of a range of reading skills improves learning and their strategic use by the teacher should be encouraged and is discussed in this research.

Lean service operations and lean management are of vital importance for all service providers as much as manufacturers. Unfortunately, most universities need to be made aware of the concept of lean. However, they can benefit from lean management in all their service areas, such as admissions, administration of research funds, hiring, and nearly any functional area where multi-step processes can be simplified and focused on the needs of the users served by the organization. Lean methodologies focus on reducing waste (Muda in Japanese), removing overburden (Muri in Japanese), and unnecessary variation (Mura in Japanese). Non-value-added activities are eliminated or dealt with to develop the performance of the process. This study aims to highlight the suitability of lean in a university environment to enhance the efficiency of the operational tasks performed and provide suggestions for better performance. Lean methodologies were applied to the School of Graduate Studies at a Turkish university to study the current state of the process and provide recommendations and alternatives for the current issues faced using Value Stream Mapping (VSM). As a result, Value-Added and Non-Value-Added activities were identified with Indicative Ratios to compare the performance before and after applying lean. In the end, seven questions were answered to develop a proposal for the future state of the process, which was presented to the university management.

This article presents a scientometric analysis of 330,729 journal articles indexed in the prestigious Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science database authored by researchers affiliated with institutions from five Southeast Asian countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam) and published in the first two decades of the 21st century (2001-2020). With a focus on Indonesia, we examined the scientific production of those five nations as well as the citedness of their research publications from both the static and dynamic perspectives and compared various indicators of countries in absolute and relative terms, including the socio-economic aspects of population size, gross domestic product, and research and development expenditures. The key findings are: a) the overall research production of all five countries has been growing, b) Indonesia is the weakest nation in all relative scientometric indicators except the average number of citations per paper, where it is ranked second, c) Malaysia is generally the leading nation, but Vietnam has the most remarkably positive development in both production and citedness, and d) the Philippines is extremely efficient in the mean number of citations per paper as well as per expenditure on research and development.

Marginalizing Local Government in COVID-19 Containment: The Case of Kerala, India
Moolakkattu, John S.
Local governments (LGs) have an advantage in fighting pandemics compared to other levels of government. This is evident from the success stories of many local governments around the world. Because LGs are closer to the ground situation, they are able to act more contextually and flexibly. Pandemic containment measures like contact tracing, physical distancing, wearing of masks, quarantining, encouraging vaccination, and social support are easier for local governments to undertake with a certain degree of ownership. This paper analyses the role of rural LGs known as panchayats in containing pandemics, particularly Kerala, which has the most empowered village-level panchayats in India and has experience in participatory planning for more than two decades. The paper discusses Kerala's gains in pandemic management and the areas where it lagged.

This research sheds light on Western use of educational Ideological State Apparatuses (ISA) as an important weapon to eradicate Native American culture. Although there have been huge research on Native American Culture and Euro-American oppression of Native Americans, very small is known about the ideological method of European oppression. The picture that appears from Louise Erdrich’s LaRose is that for Europeans, education is a tool to enlighten the natives. However, for the natives, education is a process of transforming their culture into Western ideology promoting Western socio-cultural norms. Ideological oppression is more adverse than subdued oppression. This study analyses Louis Erdrich’s Larose through Althusser’s theory of ISA which means that people are controlled firstly by ideology, then by constraint. Europeans used both suppression and ideology to obliterate their culture by which they could assimilate them, and there would be a minor risk of resistance. As a result, Europeans have tried to eradicate the religion and culture of Native Americans through education to establish their own culture and religion. Louise Eldritch uncovers the dark side of the educational civilization process, which this research shall analyze through Althusser’s theory of ISA.

This study examined perceptions of effective leadership in elite women’s soccer by team captains. Data were collected from a range of perspectives in four elite female soccer teams in England. For each of the four teams, data were collected from 6 participants (total N = 24 players). For each of the four teams, interviews were conducted with the captain and the coach as well as a focus group with 4 players regarding their perceptions of the captain’s leadership. Data were firstly deductively categorised under the four key areas of transformational leadership: idealised influence, inspirational motivation, individualised consideration and intellectual stimulation. An inductive analysis of the relevant data which did not fit into these themes revealed the importance of captains building bridges through helping to navigate the gender gap as well as to facilitate effective relationships with and between players. The implications of these findings are discussed.

Unfolding Industrial Output: A Study of India’s Formal Manufacturing Sector
Choudhry, Sonam
capital intensity
cluster analysis

import competing
Investigation of economic development and growth has been at the forefront of economic research (Denison 1962; Barro 1996). The idea of focusing on the industrial sector to drive economic growth has been a global phenomenon. The process of economic growth has been supplemented with several structural changes that an economy goes through. The mainstream literature predicts that the opening up of the economy increases the exports of commodities based on the economy’s comparative advantage. One of the principal questions that the paper attempts is to examine whether the openness of the Indian economy resulted in the expansion of the share of export-oriented industries and the reduction of import-competing industries' share in manufacturing output. The analysis uses rich granular-level data on the Indian formal manufacturing sector. Furthermore, the analysis of structural changes requires looking not only at the growth rate over a particular period but also at the cumulative increase in growth of the sector according to different activities which may be labour or capital-intensive. The paper using cluster-based analysis decomposes manufacturing growth into labour and capital-intensive activities and brings out important aspects on how the manufacturing output is been produced. The pattern of capital intensity of Indian manufacturing firms shows that firms have systematically witnessed an increase in capital intensity. Factors such as incentives in the form of subsidies, and reduction in tariffs on capital goods made access easier to adopt advanced technology. Also in today’s globalised world, the pressure on domestic firms to remain competitive both in the external and domestic markets created grounds for adopting the latest (more capital-intensive) techniques.

The Influence of Delayed Payment Obligation on Purchase Decision of Household: Evidence from Nigerian Data
Ojonta, Obed I.
The purpose of this study is to examine how delayed payment obligation influences household purchase decision in Nigeria. Unlike the large of existing studies, this study used binary regression model estimation and draws a dataset of 2019 General Household Survey with sample size of 2911 household for the analysis. The stylized facts from the dataset revealed more share of rural household than their counterparts in urban household. Interestingly, the results show that delayed payment obligation is positive and significantly influence purchase decision of household in Nigeria. But when the household is disaggregated into rural and urban household, the result shows that some household that barrowed from friends and family and household that reduced food consumption expenditure have positive and significant influence on purchase decision in both rural and urban household while household that received assistance from friends and family has positive and significant influence on purchase decision by rural household. This study recommends delayed payment obligation for important factor to drive purchase decision by household. This could be achieved through policy formulation that will promote delayed payment obligation.

Education and the question of values: A critical approach in light of the Qur’anic values theory by Muhammad Arkoun

Abstract
The current research aimed to identify Muhammad Arkoun's vision of the Islamic value system as one of the most important symbols of the contemporary modernist trend. This was through the theory of Quranic Values presented within his huge intellectual project "Critique of the Islamic Mind". It was also an attempt to conduct a critical approach to the systems of education on values in Islamic societies on its light. The research followed the descriptive analytical method, and the critical method. This study concluded that the Qur'anic Values theory aims to highlight the possibility of conducting a critical restoration of the Qur'anic moral centrality in the light of modern approaches to human sciences and society. It aims so by dismantling the belief that it is not possible to criticize the values that have a Quranic reference as a reference that is not discussed or touched using the Genealogical Method, through which it was revealed that these values were formed according to cultural templates and intellectual systems governed by the medieval mental space. It also came to meet political-ideological purposes, and that the basis for deducing Quranic values is four criteria: the names of God, martyrdom, the nation, and religious law. In addition, each of the four criteria can result in varying values with varying foundations, pillars and objectives of the deduction process. The research ended with the development of a vision through which the process of values education can be developed in the light of what the theory revealed.

The arrival of new media has generated tensions, arguments and debate about the prospects and future of the newspaper industry all over the world. In Northern Nigeria today, media technologies have led to many changes that are seen in the newspaper industry. For instance, technology has broken distance, making communication easier and the information around the world more accessible; it has shrunk both time and space. This situation has generated debates among scholars, about whether the new media technologies would eventually wipe out the conventional media or at least further redefine them. Within this context, this study aims to examine the Mediatization of the net and Internetization of the print media in Northern Nigeria. The study was anchored on the theoretical lens of Diffusion of Innovation Theory. The study adopted the traditional approach of the positivist research design, which informed the choice of survey method, whereby a self-administered questionnaire in the form of a 4-point Likert scale was used to generate data from the study population of 104 journalists working in the selected newspapers, purposive sampling was used to select the newspapers while simple random sampling was used to select the journalists and IBM® SPSS® Statistics was used to analyse the data. Based on the result, the study discovered that new media technologies posed some challenges like inadequate facilities, epileptic internet availability, and inadequate funds for personnel capacity building to the selected newspapers. The study concludes that the need for newspapers to embrace new technologies in content production and news processing is fundamental for the overall success of the print media in Northern Nigeria.

Media technologies have been considered freeing and empowering since the twentieth century, as they aid in enhancing human capacity. In the media and communication industries, technologies have aided human manipulation of mechanical and electronic processes. Arguably, social interactions were improved by extending audience reach, broadening coverage, changing time and location constraints, and bridging important gaps in information. In this context, this study used in-depth interviews as the research method, and thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data gathered based on the themes that emerged during the interviews. The population of the study consisted of 106 staff in the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Kano, and a purposive sampling technique was used to select 15 participants for the study. This study is premised on the Domestication and Technological Determinism Theories. The findings of the study revealed that quality information dissemination, good visualization, easy access to information, and quick spread of information to the target audience are among the factors responsible for the adoption of information technology in NTA Kano. The study concludes that there is a need for an increasing level of information technology, especially NTA Kano, to enhance adequate information dissemination. There is also a need to address financial difficulties, lack of constant training and retraining of staff, poor state of equipment or lack of maintenance, and lack of adequate funding to ensure the proper and smooth running of modern technologies in NTA Kano.

traditional marriage
Wayah Dalem
Marriage is something that is sacred, great, and monumental for every spouse. Marriage is not just following religion and continuing the instincts of the ancestors to form a family in a legal bond between men and women, but also has a very deep and broad meaning for human life towards the ark of life as it aspires to be. The Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat Traditional Marriage has a unique procedure. In traditional families, the wedding ceremony is carried out according to hereditary tradition, which consists of many sub-ceremonies, namely penembung, paningset, liru kalpika, sawon ancestors, wilujengan, pasang tarub, tuwuhan, siraman, paes, sesadeyan dawet, sengkeran, mindodareni, ijab/marriage, panggih, sepasaran, and wilujengan. Javanese traditional wedding procedures with Islamic wedding procedures need to be studied more deeply, because the Javanese Muslim community can adjust the style of dress and decoration in accordance with Islamic provisions. This study uses qualitative methods to answer research questions: How is the customary marriage procession of the Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat? What are the stages of the Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat customary court with Islamic law? What is the meaning of the symbols of the Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat customary procession? The results of the study show that the custom of the great marriage at the Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat does not conflict with the provisions of Islamic law; the conditions for harmonious marriage are met; and according to the laws in force in Indonesia, it is also appropriate.

Among the challenges encountered by stroke patients and survivors include inadequate stroke information especially, from broadcast media, and lack of awareness. The study recommended that journalists should be more proactive in reporting and discussing stroke, especially on symptoms, causes, and management, as a large number of victims exist in developing countries where there is a high case of stroke prevalence. It also recommended that government should equip public hospitals with tools and personnel to be able to manage all forms of paralysis.
