“Misrepresented in Determining the Stereotype of Local Residents” (Analysis Documentary film Borneo’s sea Bajou The Real Water World People)
Mass media through documentary films have a role in constructing stereotypes towards local culture. In the process of representing text or images, there can be a misrepresentation. This study aims to understand how stereotypes of local culture involve in the Bajou Borneo marine documentary The Real Water World People. This film tells the life of the Bajou tribe who are known to have the ability to stay long in the air. This is qualitative research with using Roland Barthes's Semiotic analysis method. The results show that the sign were represented by misinterpretations through conversational texts or text images to support the stereotypes of the local Bajou tribal culture.
