Abstract
Kawasan Kotabaru Yogyakarta, yang pada awal abad ke-20 dirancang sebagai enclave elit Eropa (Nieuwe Wijk) dengan politik segregasi spasial yang ketat, mengalami transformasi fungsi yang dramatis sejak akhir era kolonial, masa pendudukan Jepang, hingga awal Revolusi Kemerdekaan Indonesia. Artikel ini menganalisis proses tersebut dengan fokus pada dimensi sosial-politik, khususnya peristiwa “Revolusi Kotabaru” 7 Oktober 1945 yang menjadikan kawasan ini target utama pengambilalihan laskar pejuang. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan sejarah sosial-politik dan teori produksi ruang, perebutan ruang simbolik, serta konsep spatial appropriation, kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa Kotabaru tidak hanya direbut secara fisik, melainkan juga diartikulasikan ulang sebagai pusat pemerintahan, perawatan pejuang, pendidikan politik, rapat rahasia, dan diplomasi Republik. Transformasi ini membuktikan bahwa dinamika mikro di tingkat lokal khususnya perebutan dan redefinisi makna ruang kota merupakan elemen krusial dalam keberhasilan perjuangan kemerdekaan di Yogyakarta sebagai ibu kota sementara Republik Indonesia (1946–1949).
