Abstract
ABSTRACT: The decline in empathy among students has become a critical concern in the field of education. One intervention that shows promising potential to enhance empathy is cinema therapy. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cinema therapy in improving student’s empathy using a meta-analytic approach. Relevant literatures were identified through Google Scholar with inclusion criteria involving experimental studies that reported N, mean, and SD for both pre-test and post-test data. Seventeen eligible articles were analyzed using Jamovi software version 2.6.44. The results indicate that cinema therapy demonstrates a high effect size. However, substantial heterogeneity among studies and indications of publication bias were observed. These findings highlight the relevance of cinema therapy as an educational intervention that effectively fosters emotional awareness and enhances student’s empathy. This study supports the application of cinema therapy as an evidence-based intervention to enhance empathy in students. Nevertheless, future research should consider potential moderating factors such as age and participant’s socio-cultural backgrounds.

ABSTRAK: Kemampuan empati yang menurun pada kalangan peserta didik menjadi perhatian penting dalam dunia pendidikan. Salah satu intervensi yang menunjukan potensi untuk meningkatkan empati adalah cinema therapy. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas cinema therapy dalam meningkatkan empati peserta didik melalui pendekatan meta analisis. Pencarian literatur relevan melalui Google Scholar dengan kriteria inklusi penelitian eksperimental yang menyertakan data N, mean, dan SD, serta prates dan pascates. Tujuh belas artikel yang memenuhi kriteria dianalisis menggunakan software Jamovi 2.6.44. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa cinema therapy memiliki nilai effect size yang tinggi. Namun, heterogenitas antar studi sangat tinggi dan terdapat indikasi bias publikasi. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa cinema therapy relevan digunakan sebagai intervensi pendidikan yang efektif dalam menumbuhkan kesadaran emosional dan meningkatkan empati peserta didik. Studi ini mendukung penggunaan cinema therapy sebagai intervensi berbasis bukti dalam peningkatan empati, namun faktor moderator seperti usia dan latar belakang sosial partisipan perlu dipertimbangkan dalam penelitian lanjutan.
