Journal History

Jurnal Ekonomi dan Keuangan Islam (JEKI) is a continuation of the journal Amwaluna, which was first published in 2004 by the Pusat Pengkajian dan Pengembangan Ekonomi Islam (P3EI), led at the time by Priyonggo Suseno, M.Sc., Ph.D. This change occurred because, in 2011, when P3EI was led by Bekti Hendrie Anto, M.Sc., the government issued a policy mandating that journal management systems move online using the Open Journal System (OJS) application. In addition, new regulations were introduced that required journals to have names more specifically related to certain fields of study. As a result, Amwaluna was renamed Jurnal Ekonomi dan Keuangan Islam (JEKI) to reflect the increasing focus on Islamic economics and finance at the time.

As part of efforts to enhance its quality, JEKI applied for an ISSN on Monday, September 26, 2011, and received the print ISSN on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, with the number ISSN: 2088-9968. Due to management issues, JEKI's publication was delayed for three years. Eventually, in 2016, under the leadership of Prof. Agus Widarjono, JEKI resumed its publication. JEKI was then applied to an online ISSN on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, and received it on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, with the same ISSN number: 2088-9968.

JEKI was first applied for SINTA accreditation in 2017 and achieved the SINTA 3 status. In 2020, JEKI applied for re-accreditation and was upgraded to SINTA 2 on April 1, 2020, through a decree from the Ministry of Research and Technology/Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency No. 85/M/KPT/2020. JEKI was indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) on July 9, 2021. In the same year, JEKI was also indexed in the REPEC, BASE, and Dimension. In 2022, JEKI will be further indexed by EBSCO and ProQuest. JEKI applied for Scopus indexing on February 21, 2020, but the submission was rejected by the Scopus Content Selection and Advisory Board (CSAB) in December 2020.

JEKI has collaborated with several organizations such as the Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) in Yogyakarta. JEKI also partnered with the Islamic Economic Forum for Indonesia Development (ISEFID) during the 2nd Conference on Islamic Management, Accounting, and Economics (CIMAE) on July 25, 2019. Additionally, JEKI collaborated with the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNKES) during a Journal Management and Scientific Article Writing Training Workshop on July 7, 2020.

Since 2011, JEKI has had three editors-in-chief:

  • 2011–2018: Heri Sudarsono, SE, M.Sc (Scopus ID: 57216744648), whose mission was to implement the operational guidelines for scientific journal management.
  • 2019–2022: Prof. Dr. Abdul Gafar Ismail (Scopus ID: 36987804600), who aimed to increase the involvement of international editors and reviewers in JEKI's business processes.
  • 2023–Present: Prof. Agus Widarjono (Scopus ID: 57192412368), whose mission is to professionalize JEKI's management so that it can be on par with other reputable international journals.
