Plagiarism

Statement and policy

Teknisia has zero tolerance for plagiarism and therefore establishes the following policies when plagiarism is identified in an article submitted for publication.

Definition of Plagiarism:

Based on Regulation of the Minister of National Education Number 17 of 2010, plagiarism is:

"The act of obtaining credits or grades for a scientific work by citing some or all of the scientific work of another party recognized as his/her scientific work, without stating the exact and adequate source, intentionally or unintentionally."

Policies:

  • Originality and Citation: Submitted papers must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Any material directly quoted from another source must be clearly differentiated from the original text through indentation, quotation marks, and proper citation.
  • Fair Use and Permissions: Any text exceeding fair use standards (defined as more than two or three sentences or the equivalent) or any graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, if possible, the original author(s). Additionally, the source must be clearly identified, such as through a citation to a previous publication.
  • Plagiarism Detection: All submitted papers will be screened for similarity using Turnitin.
  • Consequences of Plagiarism: When plagiarism is identified, the editor responsible for reviewing the paper will (should) consult with the editorial team to determine appropriate measures based on the severity of the plagiarism, in accordance with the following guidelines:

Similarity level

Teknisia has zero tolerance for plagiarism. We use Turnitin to evaluate the similarity index. The Editor then decides on cases of possible plagiarism, and a similarity report will be provided to the author. The editorial board has established the following actions:

  1. Similarity Index Above 40%: Rejection: The article will be outrightly rejected due to poor citation and/or poor paraphrasing. No resubmissions will be accepted.
  2. Similarity Index (10-40%): Revision Required: The article will be returned to the author for improvement. The author must provide correct citations for all similar passages and improve paraphrasing even if citations are provided.
  3. Similarity Index Less Than 10%: Acceptance: The article will be accepted and proceed to the next stage.

In Case 2: The authors should carefully revise the article, add required citations, and improve paraphrasing of any outside sources. The article must be resubmitted with a new Turnitin report showing no plagiarism and a similarity index less than 10%.

Additional Information

Originality and Author Responsibilities:

Authors are responsible for the content of their submitted papers and confirm the originality statement before submission. They are also expected to have read this plagiarism policy. The Editorial Board will determine appropriate measures for repeated cases of severe plagiarism by the same author(s), which may include a permanent ban on submitting future articles.

Reproducing Previously Published Material:

Authors using previously published text or figures must properly identify the source material and reference the previous publication(s). This is particularly important for review and tutorial papers, which may draw upon existing knowledge. Permission from the original author and publisher is required to republish previously published material.

Duplicate Submission and Self-Plagiarism:

Simultaneous Submission: If significant overlap (identical or nearly identical figures and text for half or more of the paper) is discovered, either during the review process or after publication, in a manuscript submitted to both Teknisia and another journal, the other journal's editor will be notified, and the case will be considered severe plagiarism.

Self-Plagiarism:

  • Intermediate: If self-plagiarism comprises more than 1/10th but less than half of the paper, the case will be treated as intermediate plagiarism.
  • Minor: Self-plagiarism confined solely to the methods section is considered minor.
