AI Usage Policy
This policy addresses the rise of AI and generative AI in academic content creation. Generative AI creates content like text and images, while AI-based technology includes broader applications like data analysis and process automation. The policy seeks to enhance transparency and guide JIPRO's authors, reviewers, and editors, with JIPRO updating these policies as needed.
For Authors
AI in academic writing is allowed for enhancing readability and language quality, not for data analysis or research insights. Human oversight is essential, as AI outputs may be flawed. Authors are fully responsible for their work and must disclose AI usage, ensuring transparency. AI cannot be credited as an author, since only humans can hold authorship roles.
AI is prohibited in image creation or modification for enhancement, obfuscation, or adding elements in manuscripts. Simple brightness or contrast adjustments are allowed if original information is preserved. AI use in research, like biomedical imaging, is an exception if detailed in Methods, specifying the technology's name, version, and manufacturer.
For Reviewers
Manuscripts and review reports are confidential and must not be uploaded to AI tools, as this could breach author rights. AI is not allowed in the review process since it cannot provide the critical thinking and original assessments required. Reviewers are fully responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their reports.
For Editors
Manuscripts must be kept confidential. Editors cannot upload manuscripts or communication, such as decision letters, to AI tools. Editorial letters must not be uploaded to AI for language enhancement. AI cannot be used in evaluation or editorial decision-making, requiring human judgment. Editors are responsible for the process, final decisions, and author communication. JIPRO supports technology that enhances editorial integrity and efficiency while maintaining confidentiality and protecting rights.
