Plagiarism Policy
To uphold the highest standards of academic integrity, JIELariba applies the following plagiarism policy to all submissions.
Definition
Plagiarism is the unethical appropriation of another person’s ideas, processes, results, or words without explicit acknowledgment of the original author and source. Self-plagiarism occurs when an author reuses substantial portions of their own previously published work without proper citation or permission.
Types of Plagiarism
-
Full Plagiarism
Presenting text, ideas, or data verbatim from another source without any changes to wording, structure, or citation. -
Partial Plagiarism
Drawing on multiple sources and extensively rephrasing or patch-writing without proper attribution. -
Self-Plagiarism
Republishing one’s own previously published work (in whole or in part) as new, or submitting essentially the same manuscript to more than one journal.
Prohibitions
-
Any form of full, partial, or self-plagiarism is strictly forbidden.
-
Authors must ensure all submitted work is entirely original.
-
All borrowed ideas or verbatim text must be clearly cited or enclosed in quotation marks.
-
Duplicate submission of the same manuscript to multiple journals is unacceptable.
Similarity Screening Procedure
-
Every manuscript is automatically screened with Turnitin to generate a Similarity Report.
-
Manuscripts will not be sent to peer review if preliminary screening indicates excessive similarity.
-
Manuscripts containing identifiable plagiarism will be immediately rejected.
Similarity Thresholds
-
Overall Similarity Index
-
In line with IEEE’s CrossCheck guidelines, the total similarity index must not exceed 30%.
-
-
Per-Source Similarity
-
In line with the IEEE's recommendation, JIELariba adopts a standard: no single source match may exceed 10%.
-
Editorial Action
-
Manuscripts exceeding either threshold will be desk-rejected.
-
Authors may revise and resubmit only after substantially reducing similarity below both thresholds.
-
In borderline cases (similarity between 25–30%), the Editor-in-Chief may request a detailed similarity report and justification before rendering a decision.
Notes for Authors
-
Exclude only properly formatted quotations and references from your similarity assessment; all other matching text will count toward the thresholds.
-
Use quotation marks and precise citations for any verbatim excerpts.
-
Paraphrase responsibly—changing a few words is insufficient without proper attribution.
