Conflict of Interest Policy
Al-Mawarid: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum is committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing. This policy defines conflicts of interest and outlines procedures for identifying, disclosing, and managing such conflicts among authors, reviewers, editors, journal staff, and the publisher, whether identified before or after publication. The journal adheres to the Core Practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
Definition of Conflicts of Interest
A conflict of interest arises when an individual or entity has financial, personal, professional, or academic relationships or interests that could influence, or be perceived to influence, their objectivity, integrity, or decision-making in research, peer review, editorial, or publishing processes.
Identification of Conflicts of Interest
Authors, reviewers, editors, and all parties involved in the publication process must disclose any potential conflicts of interest relevant to the work they are submitting, reviewing, editing, or publishing. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Financial interests: Funding sources, stock ownership, employment, consultancy, or other financial relationships related to the research.
- Personal relationships: Close personal or familial relationships with individuals involved in the research or publication process.
- Academic relationships: Collaborations or institutional affiliations that may affect objectivity or create perceptions of bias.
- Competing affiliations: Associations with organizations that may have competing interests in the research or its outcomes.
- Intellectual property: Patents, copyrights, or other intellectual property rights that could be influenced by the research or publication.
Handling Conflicts of Interest
Al-Mawarid: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum manages conflicts of interest with diligence and transparency:
- For Authors: Authors must disclose all potential conflicts of interest during manuscript submission. If a conflict is identified after publication, authors must promptly notify the editorial board, and appropriate action will be taken transparently.
- For Reviewers: Reviewers should decline invitations if they have conflicts that may compromise their impartiality. If a conflict arises during the review process, reviewers must immediately inform the editorial board for further guidance.
- For Editors and Journal Staff: Editors and staff must recuse themselves from handling submissions in which they have conflicts of interest. In cases of uncertainty, the editorial board will determine the appropriate course of action.
- For the Publisher: The publisher must establish and enforce policies to manage potential conflicts of interest within its organization, ensuring that editorial decisions are not influenced by financial or competing interests.
Transparency and Disclosure
Al-Mawarid: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum clearly communicates its conflict of interest policy and disclosure requirements to all stakeholders. Disclosures provided by authors, reviewers, editors, and other contributors will be published alongside the relevant articles, reviews, or editorials to ensure transparency.
To maintain the integrity of the editorial process, the journal will restrict or prevent editors, reviewers, and other relevant stakeholders from accessing or participating in the review and publication process of manuscripts in which they are involved as authors or co-authors.
Policy Review
Al-Mawarid: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum will periodically review and update this policy to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with international best practices. Any revisions will be communicated to stakeholders and made publicly available on the journal’s website.
