Peer Review Process

The Editor-in-Chief will forward the manuscript to the Managing Editor for further processing. The Managing Editor will request at least two scientists/experts to review the research article manuscript. All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process; the identities of the reviewers and authors are kept confidential from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout

the review process to meet standards of academic excellence.

All papers have undergone a thorough peer review. We only publish articles that have been reviewed and approved by highly qualified researchers with expertise in the relevant field (at least three reviewers per article). Al-Mawarid: Journal of Sharia and Law maintains double-blind peer review standards while continuously improving process efficiency.

Editorial & Review Workflow

  • Two-stage process: technical screening followed by editorial suitability review.
  • Manuscripts are assigned to an Editor and reviewed by at least three expert reviewers.
  • Status is updated to “Reviews Required Completed” after adequate review.
  • Manuscripts outside the scope may be rejected with a recommendation for an alternative journal.

Double-Blind Review Principle

Both reviewer and author identities are fully concealed throughout the review process to ensure fairness, objectivity, and academic integrity.

Peer Review Process

  • Manuscript submission (by the author)
  • Initial screening and selection (by the editorial team)
  • Preliminary decision and plagiarism check (Turnitin)
  • Manuscript review process (by reviewers)
  • Notification of decision (accept / revise / reject)
  • Manuscript revision (by the author)
  • Resubmission of the revised manuscript
  • Final acceptance notification
  • Galley proofing and publication

Editorial Decisions

  • Accepted – published as submitted
  • Minor Revisions – small corrections required
  • Major Revisions – substantial improvements required
  • Resubmit – reconsidered after major revision
  • Rejected – not suitable for publication

Final decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection are made by the Editors based on reviewers’ comments. In certain cases, the Editor may send the manuscript to an additional reviewer for a second round of review. The publication of accepted manuscripts is determined by the Editor-in-Chief, taking into account the acceptance date and geographical distribution. The review process typically takes between 8 and 24 weeks, with an average duration of 12 to 16 weeks. As outlined in the publication ethics policy, all manuscripts under review are treated as confidential prior to publication.
