Journal Description

al-Mawarid: Jurnal Syariah dan Hukum Journal of Sharia and Law (Print ISSN 2656-193X, Online ISSN 2656-1654) is a double-blind peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Ahwal Syakhshiyah Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Islam Indonesia. The journal is dedicated to advancing both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of Islamic law in a global context through interdisciplinary and contextual approaches, systematically bridging the classical fiqh tradition with evolving contemporary challenges.

The journal’s distinctive strength lies in its scholarly orientation that integrates local and global perspectives (a glocal approach), particularly through the advancement of applied maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah as an analytical framework for legal reform, the exploration of hybridization between Islamic law and contemporary legal systems reflecting legal pluralism, and the development of Global South Islamic Legal Studies that highlight how developing countries negotiate the relationship between tradition, state, and modernity. In addition, al-Mawarid places special emphasis on socio-digital Islamic law, examining the transformation of Islamic legal thought in response to digitalization, shifts in religious authority, and emerging ethical and regulatory challenges in the technological era.

In terms of thematic scope, the journal features studies on the application of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah to contemporary issues such as child protection, gender justice, and public policy; analyses of the interaction between Islamic law and state law in contexts of jurisdictional conflict and judicial practice; examinations of Islamic law in the Global South focusing on legal pluralism and postcolonial dynamics; studies of Islamic law in digital spaces, including technology-based religious practices and cyber ethics; discussions on contemporary Islamic family law in response to changing social structures; as well as analyses of Islamic economic and financial law within modern governance frameworks. Through this positioning, al-Mawarid: Journal of Sharia and Law is committed to serving as an academic platform that fosters critical dialogue, theoretical innovation, and empirical contributions in the development of Islamic law that is adaptive, inclusive, and just, while remaining relevant to the challenges of contemporary global society.
